CHARACTER NAME: Lucifer | Satan | The Morning Star
CHARACTER AGE: Since the world was created (appears late thirties)
SERIES: Supernatural
CHRONOLOGY: Finale
CLASS: Lawful Evil (seriously you have no idea how long this question took me to answer; unacceptably long.)
HOUSING: Oh god, randomize it please
BACKGROUND: In the beginning, the world was a formless void, and darkness covered the face of the deep. And God said 'let there be light'. And God separated the day and night. On the second day, he created a dome, and separated it from the water and called it sky. On the third day, he created the Earth, and covered it with vegetation. On the fourth day, he created the sun, the moon and the stars, and so named them thus. On the fifth day--Well, on the fifth day God created fish, and birds, and he created the Old Ones; the Leviathans, and having created them he created purgatory, and banished them to it.
Then came the archangels.
God created four of these; first Michael, the eldest; He who is like God. He was the leader of the angels, their protector. Then Lucifer, second born and the most beautiful of the angels, whom Michael took under his wing and raised. Thirdly Raphael, heaven's physician, who would soon claim to act as his Will. Then Gabriel, the youngest, whom Lucifer in turn took under his wing, and taught his tricks. They were brothers, and they knew God and all his creations, and watched as the world was completely, populated with animals, and then at last Adam, Eve and Lilith, the first humans.
This was when the trouble really started. On the seventh day, God demanded that the archangels bow before his new creation. Lucifer, who had been God's most beloved archangel, refused, his pride stung. Lucifer tried to raise rebellion then, and God created the angels to fight in the war against him. He went to Michael, whom he was sure would join him, but his brother cast him down out of heaven instead.
Not long after, Lucifer tricked the angel Gadreel into allowing him into the Garden of Eden. Inside, Lucifer changed Lilith into the First Demon, and tricked Eve into eating from the apple. The first humans were cast out of the Garden, having turned against God. Lucifer was punished for both these things; a cage with six hundred seals was created for him personally, and he and Lilith were both cast into Hell.
With Lucifer's help, the demon Azazel discovered how to break the seals that held him. He poisoned Sam Wichester's spirit, tricking him into consuming demon blood for the power it gave him, and saw that Dean was sent to Hell, where he was tortured to breaking point--thus the first and last seals were prepared to be broken, and Lucifer could return to Earth and continue his fight with Michael, triggering the onset of the Apocalypse.
Supernatural is a modern world offset with spirituality and populated by angels, demons, and all kinds of other ghosts and ghoulies. The Winchesters hunt them, unaware of how deeply entwined in the story they are--until it's too late.
PERSONALITY:
Lucifer, whose name means The Light Bringer, The Morning Star, (or in some translations The Wailing Fall) was the most beautiful angel in all of Heaven. He was devoted to his father, whom he (to some degree still does) idolised, loved, more than any of his brothers, and was in turn the most beloved of all the angels. All this combined to give Lucifer a sense of pride: he considered himself to be special, and his place by God's side even more so.
So when God asked him to worship humanity, whom he considered to be weak, fragile, flawed and murderous, he - unlike his other, more obedient brothers - rejected the order. He had been raised onto a pedestal, and was far too proud to step down from it and acknowledge these 'lesser' creatures as his betters. Lucifer asked Michael to join him, raising rebellion, and was declined. In turn, God turned the entire Kingdom of Heaven against him. In short, Lucifer was betrayed by his brothers and his father, and betrayal led into abandonment, the feeling of being replaced.
Lucifer is still proud. He still considers himself to be special, above it all, and this is augmented by the fact that he is unquestionably one of the most powerful creatures in the world, only Death and God being beyond him. He isn't cocky--he knows that no matter the battle he's confident that he can win it, which is why he doesn't flinch at taking on Michael again. Confidence emerges from that pride--or rather arrogance does, and Lucifer doesn't flinch from making it clear just how superior he feels.
His war against Heaven, and his reasons for bringing about the apocalypse, primarily revolve about his hatred for humanity, which he sees as the catalyst for his fall. The irony that he has to take human form to finish his battle with Michael isn't lost on him. In many ways he can in fact be very tolerent of humanity, but biblically speaking he prefers to twist and manipulate than actively cause harm himself, because in some way it justifies his original concerns with the species, and makes him 'right'. Since he's never lost an argument or a fight, there's no way to really demonstrate how he'd behave in that situation, although the likely answer is 'badly'. He's certainly capable of feats of jealous or spiteful rage, particularly when his plans are interfered with. And he dislikes demigods and other creatures; abominations and false idols.
He is incredibly manipulative. While Gabriel may be the Trickster, the silver tongued devil knows his way around twisting other people to his causes, which is why - of course - he's considered, alongside sin and death, to be one of mankind's enemies. He is sharp, intelligent and capable with language, very understanding of the human emotion that transforms it, and will cheerfully use the details of his fall to engender pity in others and bend them toward his service. Lucifer was a leader in his time, and demonstrates leadership qualities now and again, but then it's sometimes very difficult to motivate a work force when you have to consume their blood to stay alive.
Generally speaking, though, Lucifer is incredibly patient. Like the other archangels, he has a greater understanding of God's plan, a sort of cosmic scale omniscience. Nobody explains to him how to break the seals of the cage he's bound in, for example, he's simply aware inherently of how it works. Knowing the future and the past and how they come together feeds back into that confidence, and consequently Lucifer knows that there's no rushing things, that they'll simply happen when they happen, and is settled with those facts. It makes him patient, though some might also suggest comes off as scheming, but all he's really doing is following an itinerary that has been laid out for him for a long time, like fate.
Unbound by the requirements of concerning himself with what may or may not be, Lucifer has time to be cheerful. He's capable of telling the odd joke or two, has a good smile and laugh at the expense of the little people, and even enjoys the odd one liner before murdering a demigod. That said, his demeanour can as swiftly turn on a pin to presenting something colder, almost unsentimental, and with a knife sharp edge that would be truly terrifying if it were turned against you.
His final moments with Gabriel demonstrate the above amply, but they also show a softer side of Lucifer, even if subsequently his sentiment is brushed aside for pragmatism. He is a brother and a son first and foremost, and his love for his father and his brothers does affect him. He does clearly regret the fact that his brothers didn't join him in his rebellion, consequently breaking up their divine family. In fact it is the bond of brotherly love that defeats him in the end.
Lucifer is sharp witted. He has swagger, too. Lucifer does genuinely despise humanity, but that doesn't mean that he's the kind of creature that goes about killing, starting fires, and causing chaos off his own back. Lucifer is the corrupter; he's the snake in the Garden of Eden, whispering into Eve's ear.
As for God--there's still love there, as there is for his brothers. He's still protective of all of them, such that even if a lesser angel touches one of them, Lucifer will be triggered to act--he can fight with his brothers, but no-one else can touch them. He loves them, even if maybe over time he's forgotten how to show it.
POWER(s):
Grace:
A sort of presence of physical spiritual power that accompanies and identifies Lucifer, and can be picked up subtly by humans should he walk into a room. It's also what he draws his strength from in game to perform feats of healing, limiting his powers. Other magical creatures/people sensitive to the occult may see and recognize it.
I've nixed where I can in the interests of bringing the tone down, and keeping on a level with how angels have been used in the game before. There is a general sentiment of an angel's grace - in game - being like an imaginary mana bar, where excessive use of powers will cause a drain down to normal human fragility, similar to Castiel losing power after he rebeled.
† Divine light: Lucifer can violently eject most of his grace as a last ditch effort at distraction before an escape. This will appear as a sudden violent burst of incredible light. Canonically it's capable of destroying humans and purging demons and angels, but here it may knock out or cause a nose/earbleed to someone who's too close, and cause a general sense of confusion/ears ringing/disorientation in others within the vicinity, like a flashbomb going off.
Master of Hell:
† Weather manipulation: Reduced to Lucifer bringing a chill with him wherever he goes + frost breath (nixing anything else, angry thunderstorms for example)
† Soul reading: Lucifer has an uncanny ability to see the sins and sinful thought of others; he can also use the goodness in people to manipulate them, or tell if they're not (or not quite) human. Furthermore he can use this power to find people so long as they have a soul. This is only one element of the telepathy umbrella, which is otherwise nixed (apart from dreamwalking, see below) for playability's sake.
† Control of lesser beings: Nixed to hell hounds and making dogs stop barking, that sort of thing.
Archangel:
† Dream walking: Lucifer can project himself into the dreams of others, and perform more complex illusions in a state of astral projection. (Part of the telepathy umbrella, otherwise nixed. )
† Regeneration: The only element being held on of this is one burst of superhealing that massively drains his spiritual reserves.
† Strength/speed/stamina: Keeping this largely as is, think a young Superman.
† Flight: Tied into speed; almost like teleportation, practically instant and accompanied by a rush of sound like feathered wings fluttering.
† Time distortion: Technically part of an ability to cast illusions; can make it seem as though they're alone for the length of a discussion, even if in reality it's only a second or two, although there's a distinctly dream-like feeling to the whole thing. Much easier to achieve when minds are in a relaxed, suggestive state. Limited to 1-2 minutes.
† Wings: Part of his illusion ability: Lucifer can use his power to project an image of wings that human eyes can see; used in intimidation. They would also burn into the ground in the event of his death.
† Magic: i.e. casting spells, banishing other angels etc. Nothing like Harry Potter magic, and really very canon specific. He can for instance cast enochian runes on people to stop them being found by other angels, for all the use it might do him.
Changed, nixed,or non canonical:
† Angelic form: He would seriously blow your mind, nixed for obvious reasons, and many many wings. Despite being nixed, he is still aware of himself as being this, he just can't leave the body he put himself in.
† Immortality/Invulnerability: What it says on the tin, nixed completely apart from dumb stuff humans catch. Furthermore, the nanos will repair Nick's damaged body for him when he arrives, and ensure that he doesn't need to eat demons to maintain its integrity.
† Telekinesis: Consider this gone; no strangling people, pinning them to walls or exploding them. Removing this one is a really big deal for him.
† Control of lesser beings; Telepathy: i.e. no demon control, no spirit bannishing, possession or mind control, no ressurecting other people, no reading minds, wiping people's memories or vanishing them, etc.
† Illusions: Nixed, apart from temporary time distortion, dreamwalking, and wings.
† Time control; throwing people through time: Nixed
† Omniscience/foresight: Culminative knowledge and tied into the above, but also gone.
† Biokinesis: The opposite of resurrection, such as causing a human to suddenly develop late stage cancer. Nixed.
† Consuming souls to gain power: What it says on the tin. Really gone.

[ The camera is turned upwards. Here, at last, is an (unfortunately) familiar face for those who have been here for a while. Lucifer doesn't look like much otherwise, just another steely eyed, rough featured imPort making his introductions. There are wounds healing on his - admittedly pale - face that look like they might have been some kind of deep tissue radiation burn. Still, he doesn't seem to be in any pain--he looks kind of cheerful. ]
I really don't know what I did to deserve a military escort, but I'm more than happy to know that I've engendered such respect in the human population here. Well--respect; fear; one is so very much like the other.
Now then, why don't we start with some introductions. [ He tapped his lip with one finger, considering where to start. ] I have a number of names, most largely unneccessary, but Lucifer will do, and I am, or rather was, an archangel of the Lord. That means, for the sake of argument, that I can probably break you with a flick of my little finger-- [ He's bluffing. ] --but don't let that worry you. So long as you stay out of my way, I won't touch a hair on your chiny-chin-chins.
Oh, and Dean? Hello darling. Let's have a little chat, shall we? Happy Easter.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
It was a beautiful little church in a beautiful little crossroads town in the state of Kansas. Not much to look at, really, roads went in and came out the other side. Shops lined the main street, there was a cafe, two tiny diners, and a cinema that had been repurposed as a community center for years.
The church was by far the loveliest thing the town had. It had been built painstakingly by the first settlers in the area, and stood ever since. The little graveyeard was groomed and handsome, the big mahogany doors decorated with gold gingerbread, and a single, engraved bell stood in the whitewashed tower. A gardener tended the roses in the garden and tidied the ancient graves, and a white picket fence surrounded the entire estate, its paint glistening.
Lucifer smiled at the gardener, patted a passing child on the head, and whistled an off tune as he let himself into the church. A hanging placard on the door said 'Welcome!' after all.
There was a man and woman - young, freshly engaged - sitting inside praying together. Lucifer ignored them, approached the altar casually, and popped himself up on top of it, one knee pulled up to his chest, the other leg dangling idly. A dying Christ hung on the cross between two simple stained glass windows, and Lucifer gave him a little wave.
"Hang in there, brother."
A little gasp from the woman in the front row, and Lucifer turned to look at her.
"Well, really. It would be impolite to pretend he wasn't there." He put up a hand to his eyes, blocking out the morbid figure. "Just pretend we can't see him, and maybe he'll get the idea." He swung to face the couple completely. "It's wonderful that you can forgive the fact that he slept with your sister--" Her expression turned shocked, fiancee looked like he'd been punched in the gut. "Oh, you didn't know about that?" She slapped him very hard, and her husband-to-be stood abruptly, looking like he was about to approach Lucifer to start a fight before, instead, running out after her.
"So much for the sanctity of marriage," Lucifer tutted, letting his eyes spin upward for a moment. "Isn't it about time you raised your head above the parapet? This world is much too quiet for my liking. So much faith, so very little God."
"Oh," he said, sliding down from his perch. "But the signs are still there, aren't they?"
As though on command, just as Lucifer opened the door of the church, thunder rumbled in the towering black cloud looming overhead. It was cutting the blue sky and fluffy white clouds away like a dark blade through the summer sky. The wind had been steady before, but it was gusting, whipping upward, sending dust skittering. The couple were arguing loudly as they walked back toward the center of town; Lucifer ignored them.
The panes of glass rattled ominously in their settings.
"Mom look," called a little girl, approaching the gardener.
"Not now, honey."
"Mom look. Look! That cloud looks like a bunny."
The wind twisted, and now it was rougher, picking up more than just dust. A newspaper swirled in the eddies around the church and hit the gardener in the face. At last she looked up, beating it away from her face.
--Just as the tornado touched down less than a half mile away, tearing its hungry path toward town.
"Heaven help us," the woman cried, pulling her child closer. Was there even time to get to cover? Where would they run to? She looked up at the church, at Lucifer standing on the steps with a grin on his face and his arms wide, embracing the storm.
"Heaven isn't coming," he told her, sweetly. He raised his wings, and with a whistle of feathers rushing through air, took flight. The view would be better from the air.
FINAL NOTES: I researched what powers were kept by the other angels when they were in play. I don't know whether the nixing I've gone to is strictly necessary or not enough, so if mods have any notes to give on Lucifer's powers please let me know.
